Cleaning Your Shower Doors

Cleaning your shower doors does not have to be a big hassle.

Follow these cleaning tips from Mrs. Clean. She'll give you some tried and true methods to clean them up fast.

One day in the distant past, I found myself standing in my shower with plastic grocery bags over my sneakers, rubber gloves on my hands and a bottle of CLR, trying to figure out if I could get my shower doors clean before the fumes overpowered me.

Even with the bathroom fan running, I still couldn’t get that smell out of my nose or my bathroom.

I even left a scented candle burning inside the shower, and that really only masked the smell. I have to admit, the commercial cleaner worked.

But I really don’t want to repeat that process ever again. Bad smell, dangerous chemicals. There has to be a better way to clean those doors!

I did find the answer to cleaning shower doors easily. There are some alternatives to harsh chemicals (That work well), and most of them can be found around your home.

Fabric Softener:

Run to the laundry room and grab yourself a dryer sheet, no kidding. I'll let you know right off - this won't work by rubbing a dry sheet against the door.

You have to moisten the fabric softener first. Amazingly, those hard water stains immediately begin to swirl away when cleaning the glass. A quick wipe with a paper towel and you'll be looking through the clean door again. And you will have an outdoor fresh scent in the bathroom.

Rubbing Alcohol:

For this method, you don’t even have to leave your bathroom to find all the materials you need.

Combine one cup of water and one cup of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and mix to combine. Then, spray the doors with the solution and wipe dry. A fresh newspaper can be used to prevent streaks. Using rubbing alcohol is also good for chrome fixtures.

You’ll be able to clean the entire door fixture with one product, instead of juggling two products that may not be good to use together.

White Vinegar:

Vinegar can be used on so many household items, from cloth to metal, and is completely safe. (I mean, you generally find it in your kitchen cabinet.)

Pour the same ratio of vinegar to water in a spray bottle. Spray on the glass, and wipe with a clean cloth.

Baking Soda:

The same composition that makes baking soda a great ingredient in science projects is also what makes it a great cleaning agent.

However, because you need to use hot water for this method, make sure you’re wearing gloves.

Dip a clean sponge in hot water, then sprinkle quite a bit of baking soda onto the sponge. This method also takes a bit more elbow grease, and you need to keep the sponge wet and sprinkled with baking soda to make it effective.

Magic Eraser:

This works much like the fabric softener. Moisten the magic eraser and start cleaning the shower door for sparkling clean glass.
