Tips for Home Organization
With the busy lifestyles we have today, home clutter can become quite an issue in a short amount of time.
If we allow our homes to become too cluttered and disorganized, it is not unusual to end up spending an entire, yet valuable, day off from work just trying to put things into some semblance of order.
However, if we implement some home organization tips on an ongoing basis, we can avoid reaching a point that requires a full day of cleaning, organizing, and putting the home back into efficient condition.
Don't Be a Pack Rat:
There are some people who think they must save everything; it is a habit and requires concentration and effort to control. Be honest when evaluating what you do and do not need to keep.
Once you do decide to keep an item, decide how and where to store it. For example, most parents save their children's art projects and school work throughout their childhood years.
A storage tip that works is to have a large cardboard box or plastic container for each child labeled with their name.
Place the items in the appropriate box. When the box is filled, you can store it and start another if necessary. In later years, you and your children will enjoy going through the "time capsule" boxes.
This is one area that can be hard as we want to save everything they do, remember that not every piece of paper needs to be saved, save the things that are cute and special, reports and school projects that can fit in a storage container.
Organizing Kitchen Cabinets:
Kitchen cabinets are great for storing many things, including pots, pans, food items, dishes, and so forth. It is important, though, to have a system for your cabinets rather than just randomly placing items within them.
For instance, food goes in the pantry, if you don’t have a pantry – designate some cabinet space.
Dishes and glasses go in another cupboard and spices and cooking oils go in a cupboard close to your cooking area. Give cooking utensils a drawer and so on.
One common home organization culprit is plastic containers used for storage. Sometimes we end up with either a lid with no container or a container with no lid. Periodically when you’re cleaning the kitchen check your storage containers. If there is a lid or container without a match, discard it.
Keep Your Closet Clean:
Who hasn't at least once in their life received a phone call that unexpected company was on the way over.
Because there is no time you embarked on a quick cleaning spree that involved throwing all the clutter lying about into the closets.
What often happens, however, is when the company leaves, we enjoy the clutter free living area so much we simply leave the items in the closet.
Closets should contain items stored for easy accessibility. Avoid abusing your closet by not stuffing it with things you don't feel like dealing with at the time.
Everything Has a Place:
Invest wisely in plastic storage containers, organizers, and shelving so household items can be stored efficiently. Have a designated place for magazines, art supplies, holiday supplies, sewing accessories and craft supplies, etc.
Having a place where everything goes is only a part of the storage and home organization solution.
It is essential that when items are removed from their storage spot for use that they be returned afterward.
This is a family affair. If everyone helps out, keeping your home organized gets easier all the time.
Regular Cleaning:
These are just a few home organization tips to help you keep your clutter and disorganization to a minimum.
The key element to remember regarding clutter is to clean your home frequently and put things away on regular basis rather than letting it build up into a job no one wants to undertake.
