Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Review

Review of Hoover Vacuum Cleaner

Hoover has been making vacuum cleaners since 1908. Currently, Hoover has about 40 different models of vacuum cleaners available including central vacuums and commercial vacuums.

Needless to say, a lot of people buy Hoover vacuums. They are a top seller in lower priced vacuums in the United States. The problem with offering so many vacuum cleaners is that they can’t all be good. Hoover vacuums test from poor to excellent depending on the model.

The newest and most exciting Hoover vacuum cleaner available is the Z700 model. Its launch thrusts Hoover into the upper middle price range vacuum competition at around $500 (can be found for $50-$100 less online), and the test results are very impressive.

Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Features:

It’s dual purpose. For years, carpet and flooring manufacturers have been telling us that upright vacuum cleaners are better for carpet and canister vacuums are better for bare floors. If you have both, you usually have to settle for dirtier carpets or sweeping the floors. The greatest thing about Hoover’s Z700 vacuum cleaner is that it’s both an upright and a canister vacuum.

It converts back and forth, and it’s very simple to do. You can vacuum carpeted floors with the convenience and brush roller of an upright, and then with an easy switch you can clean your tile, hardwood, or vinyl flooring with a canister.

Easy To Use:

This Hoover vacuum cleaner has an easy to use, push-button control center conveniently located at the handle. It allows you to turn on the vacuum, change between low, medium, and high carpet pile, and also has a hard surface button for bare floors. Underneath those buttons, you will find a button for gentle cleaning that works in both upright and canister modes. The gentle cleaning option allows you to vacuum floor rugs, upholstery, and draperies with less powerful suction. To the right of all of these buttons is a problem indicator. It lights up the part of the vacuum that is jammed or malfunctioning in case you run over a cat toy or a sock. If you do have a jam, the vacuum will automatically stop suction until you fix the problem.

Other Features:

Some other impressive features of the Z700 Hoover vacuum cleaner are the 20-foot attachment hose and the 35-foot power cord. Most vacuums have less than 10-foot hoses and less than 30-foot power cords. The length of the hose makes cleaning staircases a breeze. The vacuum conveniently sits at the bottom while you can reach even the top of most stairs. The long hose stretches to 20 feet, which means you don’t have to attach a longer hose when you want to use the attachments. You just press a release and use it conveniently within the course of vacuuming. The machine is well-balanced and doesn’t tip in canister mode. The longer power cord means that vacuuming will go faster because you won’t have to keep unplugging the cord and switching to a closer outlet. How many times have you pulled the cord as far as it will go, have about 5 feet left of vacuuming, and decided it was easier to just skip that part than to change outlets?

Hepa Filter and Attachments:

The Z700 Hoover vacuum cleaner uses an impressive HEPA filter that it claims never has to be cleaned or replaced. The filter spins so the filter is used evenly and “cleans” itself every 6 seconds during operation. The dirt collects in a bagless container that is easy to release and empty. The main vacuum cleaner handle is adjustable to make upright vacuuming convenient no matter how short or tall you are. There are no belts or headlights to replace. The Z700 uses LED lights that are extra bright and won’t need replacing. The hood is very low to the ground, so it can get under beds and most furniture. It is also very wide to make vacuuming large rooms faster. The operation of the vacuum is surprisingly quiet. There are three attachment tools included: a pet hair cleaning tool, a crevice tool, and a dusting brush.

The Drawbacks:

This Hoover vacuum cleaner is one of the best tested, but there are some drawbacks. Most users didn’t find them important enough to give up the slick look and powerful suction of the machine, but they are worth noting.

  • The machine weighs 28 pounds, which is heavier than most uprights and may be too heavy for most people to carry up stairs.
  • The suction is incredible, but it seems to add to the weight as you vacuum. It’s as though you can feel the suction resistance.
  • This machine is not self-propelled.
  • The power cord wheel was confusing and clumsy for several testers. The Z700 is a bit picky about how you wind the cord.
  • The machine only stores three attachments. If you buy or receive extra, you’ll have to store them outside of the unit.
  • The attachment compartment was a bit tricky. It fell off for some users, and a few found it to be difficult to use.
  • The bagless container is messy to empty. If there are allergy sufferers in your home, you should empty the container outside.

None of the testers complained about the performance of the machine. Most had the appearance of the machine as the first comment. While it might not matter to most, the Z700 Hoover vacuum cleaner looks like a robot. It’s cool enough to even entice kids and husbands to use it at least once. If you can get beyond the weight and the few technical difficulties you might encounter, this is an excellent vacuum cleaner with superior performance and adaptability.
