Panasonic Performance Plus Vacuum Cleaner Review

Review of the Panasonic Performance Plus Upright Vacuum Cleaner

The Panasonic Performance Plus Upright Vacuum, model MC-UG589, is an upright style vacuum that uses disposable paper bags and has HEPA filtration.

The MC-UG589 weighs about 20 pounds and comes with a 2 year parts and labor warranty, and a 5 year warranty on the motor. It is available from internet retailers from about $375.

Panasonic Performance Plus Upright Features:

  • Nozzle
  • Filtration System
  • Performance Indicator
  • On-board Tools

Nozzle:

The Performance Plus has a 14 inch wide nozzle. This is a nice wide width, if you are vacuuming large rooms you’ll notice you cover more surface area with each sweep. This feature improves efficiency.

The MC-UG589 also has active edge cleaning on both sides of the nozzle. You’ll appreciate this feature when you are trying to vacuum close to a wall. You won’t have to reposition yourself to get the area close to the wall.

This model also has automatic height adjustment. This is another feature created to make vacuuming as easy and efficient as possible. You don’t have to either ratchet the vacuum; or turn stop and turn dials if you change from one flooring to another, the vacuum automatically adjusts. The vacuum can be used on either bare floors or carpet.

It also has a foot switch on the nozzle to turn the beater bar off when vacuuming bare floors, or turn on the beater bar to vacuum carpeted areas.

Filtration System:

The MC-UG589 features HEPA filtration. If you have allergy or people with respiratory sensitivities, you know HEPA filtration can help alleviate symptoms. A vacuum with HEPA filtration can suck up dust, pet dander, and pollens and prevents them from being re-released into the air.

Performance Indicator:

The Performance Indicator takes the guess work out of whether or not the vacuum is working up to full capacity. If the vacuum is not working properly a glance at the indicator gauge will let you know. You’ll immediately know if the bag is full or there is a blockage in the hose.

On-Board Tools:

A crevice tool, dusting brush, and extension wands are all stored conveniently on the vacuum body. When you need your accessories, they are easily reached.

Panasonic Performance Plus Upright Recommendations:

Although this is a relatively heavy vacuum, Mrs. Clean recommends this model. It is reasonably priced, and has a number of features designed to make your vacuuming as efficient as possible, such as active edge cleaning, the ability to turn off the agitator, onboard tools, and HEPA filtration.

Pros:

This model is safe for any flooring surface, as the beater bar can easily be turned off or on. The beater bar has 3 rows of bristles for better cleaning.

This system cleans up to 50 percent better than agitators that have 2 rows of bristles and folds down so you can easily get under furniture.

Cons:

This model can be easily tipped. When using the hose and /or wands, you’ll have to be careful that you don’t tip the vacuum over while stretching the hose out.

This vacuum weighs 20 pounds. It may be too heavy for either children or the elderly to carry up stairs, if the home has more than one level.
